We are thrilled to announce that we were awarded a grant from the New York Community Trust to run Technovation in New York City. The $50,000 grant will help us expand Technovation from the 50 girls we worked with in 2012 to 100+ in 2013. We have some amazing partners from the Hive Learning Network NYC, including the YMCA (Long Island City and Ridgewood) and The Point, who will be hosting girls at their sites. The Point will also hire a student photographer to document the program. Reel Works’ teens will run a Video 101 workshop for the girls to help them make slick pitch videos.

First up, our partners will start recruiting teams, while we recruit mentors. Next, they will host a Hack Day in the fall to familiarize everyone with App Inventor. The formal program will begin in January- so stay tuned for updates!

The funds are from the Hive Digital Media Learning Fund, and contributors to the fund include the New York Community Trust; Joan Ganz Cooney Fund; Beth M. Uffner Fund; Renate, Hans, and Maria Hoffman Trust; MacArthur Foundation; Mozilla Foundation; and David Rockefeller Foundation.
